About the Work:

Fanfare for the Selflessness (2021) was selected as the second prize winner of BETA Quartet: Call for Scores. It was dedicated to those working in ICU units during the pandemic. The low and middle registers which provide a velvety, sensuous tone were chosen to express our gratitude and appreciation for all of the selfless services. To form the recognisable context of a medical field, a motif was created from an ambulance siren and imitated the doppler effect with dissonances. The idea founded the piece as both melodic lines and harmony are based on its characteristic fourth interval. The fanfare signifies the bravery and diligence of those selfless heroes. At the same time, their warm hearts are reflected in the contrasting middle section. It is a hope of the composer that the tone and passion of his music do some justice to the dedication and passion these key workers have shown during this difficult time.
